Additional learning support

At Terrigal Public School, we ensure every student is ready to learn. We support students with disability and additional learning needs so they can take part in all areas of school life. You do not need a formal diagnosis for your child to receive support in a mainstream class. Support can begin at any stage of school.

Support that fits your child's needs

Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments  that suits each child’s needs.

Additional learning support can include:

We know when a student needs help when:

Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed.  If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.

EAL/D

At Terrigal Public School, we are proud to provide tailored EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support to ensure students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds can fully access the curriculum and succeed academically. EAL/D learners are those whose first language or dialect is not Standard Australian English and who benefit from targeted English language learning to develop the academic language skills they need across all learning areas. Our dedicated EAL/D teacher works with classroom teachers to deliver explicit, responsive support that builds confidence and competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, fostering inclusion and enabling every student to thrive in their learning journey. This approach aligns with NSW Department of Education guidance on enhancing English language proficiency so students can fully participate in schooling and reach their potential.
