The Haven - Supported Setting
At Terrigal Public School, we are deeply committed to supporting children with additional learning needs and ensuring every child is given the opportunity to flourish. The Haven is a nurturing and inclusive setting designed to recognise and build on each child’s strengths, needs, and interests. By making thoughtful, personalised adjustments to curriculum, we strive to create a learning environment where every student feels safe, supported, and valued.
The Haven consists of three specialised classes for students with disabilities, with a particular focus on supporting children with autism and moderate to severe learning needs. Each student has a Personalised Learning Support Plan (PLSP) that outlines goals tailored specifically to them. Throughout the year, parents, caregivers, and other providers such as therapists are invited to meet with teachers to review and develop these goals together, ensuring a strong, collaborative partnership.
Our small class sizes help to provide focused, individualised attention, and each class is guided by a dedicated teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO). This team-based approach ensures that every student receives consistent, compassionate support throughout their school journey.
Students in The Haven take part in a range of meaningful and enriching activities. These may include cooking, gardening, horse riding, and cross-stage integration experiences that foster connection, confidence, and personal growth. These opportunities help students develop important life skills, strengthen their independence, and build positive relationships with their peers.
Enrolment in The Haven is coordinated through an application process with the Department of Education, ensuring that students are thoughtfully and appropriately placed for success.
At Terrigal Public School, we believe every child deserves to learn in a space where they can thrive—and The Haven is one of the many ways we work to make this possible.
