Gifted and talented

TPS recognises the needs of gifted students and provides a range of extension and enrichment opportunities for students from K-6. TPS aims to identify individual learning needs of GAT students and provides enrichments opportunities, accelerated programs in maths and English and learning support for GAT students.

Our gifted and talented program provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum and includes

  • Project based learning groups
  • Public Speaking Comps
  • Debating
  • Chess Clubs
  • Spelling Bee Comps
  • Maths Olympiad
  • ICAS Exams
  • Band
  • Dance and choir groups
  • Zone/regional representation for various sports/gala days and comps

TPS encourages Professional Learning for teachers through GERRIC courses and staff development in-service to assist with early identification of gifted students, curriculum differentiation and extension programs for identified GAT students within the school.

TPS has a dedicated GAT co-ordinator and a GAT committee with representatives from each stage, and has implemented IEP's for GAT students to help support gifted students and their parents within the school community.

Our current GAT co-ordinator is Mrs Claudia Cooney. Please contact Mrs Cooney, via the school office, for further information.

Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following areas of ability at school - intellectual, creative, social and physical.

Our gifted and talented program provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum.
