Student opportunities and activities
Our extra-curricular highlights
At Terrigal Public School, we provide a vibrant range of extracurricular opportunities that inspire creativity, build confidence, and encourage teamwork. From sports and the arts to debating, gardening, and music, our programs allow students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and experience the joy of learning beyond the classroom. These activities not only nurture individual strengths but also foster a strong sense of belonging and school pride.
Sport
Our comprehensive sports program inspires students to lead active, healthy lives while developing their physical skills, teamwork, and confidence. From cross country and swimming to team sports, and athletics carnivals, students enjoy a wide range of opportunities to participate, have fun, and shine. We foster a supportive environment where participation and sportsmanship are valued equally, helping students build lifelong healthy habits and a love of physical activity.
Debating and Public Speaking
Our Stage 3 students shine in the art of debating, developing critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills through the 2025 Premier’s Debating Challenge. They approach each topic with enthusiasm, respect, and a spirit of collaboration. This program empowers students to express their ideas with clarity, listen thoughtfully to others, and build lasting confidence that extends well beyond the debating stage.
Students also take part in public speaking competitions, showcasing their confidence, courage, and enthusiasm while keeping audiences engaged and entertained throughout their speeches.
Performing Arts
The performing arts, including drama and dance, are a vibrant and valued part of school life at Terrigal Public School. Students are encouraged to express themselves creatively, build confidence, and share their talents on stage. Through participation in community performances, school events, and rehearsals, our young performers continue to expand their artistic skills and delight audiences with their energy, enthusiasm, and flair.
Garden Club
Our Garden Club gives students the opportunity to get hands-on with nature in a fun and collaborative setting. Meeting regularly, members plant seeds, tend to vegetable beds using rich compost made from fruit scraps, and enjoy watching their garden thrive through the seasons. No experience is needed—just curiosity, teamwork, and a love of learning about sustainability. It’s a rewarding way for students to connect with the environment and contribute to our school’s flourishing green spaces.
Excursions
At Terrigal Public School, we offer a range of educational excursions designed to enrich classroom learning and provide meaningful real-world experiences. These experiences take students to local cultural, historical, and environmental sites where they can explore their learning in authentic contexts. Excursions inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and strengthen connections between students and the wider community.
Incursions
Incursions bring dynamic and interactive learning experiences straight into our school. Through workshops, performances, and visits from experts, students take part in hands-on activities that extend and enrich their classroom learning. These engaging experiences spark curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking across all year levels—making learning both memorable and fun.
School Band
The Terrigal Public School Band provides students with a supportive and inspiring environment to explore and develop their musical talents. Guided by experienced music tutors, band members learn to play instruments, refine their rhythm and tone, and experience the joy of performing as part of a team. Whether beginners or continuing musicians, students build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love of music while showcasing their talents at school and community events.
Aboriginal Education and Student Leadership
At Terrigal Public School, we are proud to provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect with Aboriginal culture, history, and perspectives in authentic and respectful ways. Through classroom learning, cultural programs, and community partnerships, students develop a deeper understanding of Country and a strong sense of identity and belonging.
