At Terrigal Public School, we are committed to supporting children with additional learning needs, ensuring that each child has access to the best possible learning opportunities. Our Learning Hub is designed to focus on each child’s strengths, needs, and interests. By making tailored adjustments both in and out of the classroom, we create a supportive learning environment that enhances each child’s educational experience.
Within the Learning Hub, we offer 3 specialised classes for students with disabilities, specifically targeting those with autism and moderate to severe disabilities. Each student in the Learning Hub has a Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSP) that establishes unique learning goals, crafted to meet their individual needs. Every year, parents, caregivers, and other key individuals are invited to participate in a collaborative meeting with teachers to discuss and create these personalised learning goals, fostering a supportive network around each student.
Our commitment to excellence and innovation is evident in the structure of our Learning Hub. The classes are smaller in size, allowing for focused attention on each child. Every class is staffed with a dedicated teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO) to ensure that students receive comprehensive support throughout their educational journey.
Through an inclusive and individualised approach, Terrigal Public School strives to create an environment where every student with additional learning needs can thrive and reach their full potential.
Students in the Learning Hub have the opportunity to participate in a variety of enriching activities. These include cooking classes and community access experiences, where they practice shopping, navigating schedules, problem-solving, and building social and interpersonal skills. Additionally, students can engage in horse riding, gardening, and cross-stage integration activities, promoting interaction and collaboration with peers. These experiences support students’ personal growth, independence, and social development, contributing to a comprehensive educational experience.
Enrolment in the Learning Hub is based on an application process through the Department of Education, which carefully considers the unique needs of each student to ensure they are well-placed for success.
